Default mods for a staff

hi,

after looking in my storage i noticed i had a lot of unmodded staffs.
I know for wands and focis that 40/40 is good but i dont know it for staffs
So my question is what mods are good for a staff?

It depends on what you want to use it as, go to http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Staff and check which ones there is and see if any combination is superior to wand+focus or spear+shield, personally, I doubt it.

staves are mostly good for double half cast and +enchants for attunes or prots, or 20/20 with 60 health, etc... things you can't get with a one-handed and offhand.

I'll usually use an Adept Head with a Enchanting Wrapping. Inscription wise, either "Sieze The Day" or "Aptitude Not Attitude".

If you need more health though, switch out Enchanting for Fortitude.

I usually use the BMP staffs as well since they come with a permanent "Halves Skill Recharge of Spells (20%)"

That isn't unique to BMP staves, it is one of the basic properties of the weapon type. (Imperfect staves may, of course, have less than 20% HSR.)

As with most such things, it depends upon what class you play, what you want to do and what your build is.

Some generalities:

Most of the time you would be using a staff wrapping of either fortitude (+30), for the health boost, or Enchanting, if your build uses enchantments that can benefit from the 20% longer time.

Some caster classes/builds can really benefit from shorter casting times (a curses necro comes to mind). In that case you may want a "40/20" staff using both an Adept staff head and an Aptitude Not Attitude inscription.

For casters, staffs never really benefit from 15^50 inscriptions because you aren't concerned with direct damage from the staff. Something that improves casting time or energy is more useful.

For a Mesmer, casting time is not much of an issue (with enough points in Fast Casting), so you may want to go for extra energy using an Insightful head and/or +5e^50 inscription.

The most ordinary, general purpose, staff would be an Insightful <staff> of Fortitude with an Aptitude Not Attitude inscription or HCT attribute built in. (crafter staffs from Factions often have the HCT built in)

Mods for a staff are the same as mods for any other weapon type. It depends on the build and purpose you are using it for. If you have no enchantments on your build, you wouldn' be using a staff of Enchanting, so that leaves things open for Fortitude, Defense, Valor, etc. I usually use a staff with Enchanting on my Necro for running Orders, as well as an inscription to halve casting time and a staff head to half casting time. However, when I run one of my Healing Prayers builds that uses no enchantments other than Unyielding Aura and Holy Haste, I use a staff with health mods.

It really isn't an answer anyone can give without knowing the build and purpose you will use it for.
